Two members of Musica Dolce, Janet Walker, cello, and Dean Poulsen, keyboard, played a holiday concert: "Popular and Light Classical Music" for the Alliance for Retired Americans at the Highland Park Senior Center at 220 South Sixth Avenue.

Musica Dolce, a member of the Guild for Early Music, had participated, along with other member groups, in an event sponsored by the Guild for Early Music--"Early Music Festival,"  at the Grounds for Sculpture, 18 Fairgrounds Road, Hamilton, New Jersey. Musica Dolce had performed music by Albinoni (1671-1751) for recorder, cello and harpsichord, and by Vivaldi (1678-1741) for recorder, violin, cello and harpsichord.

Musica Dolce, an outreach performing group consisting of recorder, violin, cello and harpsichord had performed at Unity Bank in Highland Park, an evening of "Baroque Music to Lift the Spirit," by the composers Tomaso Albinoni, Benedetto Marcello, Johann Joachim Quantz, Henry Purcell, and Antonio Vivaldi.

"Music from the Age of Benjamin Franklin" had New Brunswick, NJ.
The concert, for recorders, cello, harpsichord, and possibly other instruments and voices, included delightful music that was heard in America at the time of Benjamin Franklin, the tercentenary of whose birth we celebrate in 2006. Furthermore, we offered a taste of New Jersey's musical history. The concert consisted of music by composers who were active in New Jersey and elsewhere during Colonial and Federal times. The music is selected from an enormous archive of eighteenth century music in America, which has been extensively researched over decades by Gordon Myers, Prof. Emeritus, The College of New Jersey, with the aid of Rockefeller Foundation grants, and recently given, with great generosity, to the Practitioners of Musick, Prof. Eugene Roan, Emeritus, Westminster Choir College of Rider University, and John Burkhalter, independent scholar. 

The music for this concert was selected collaboratively by Highland Park Recorder Society Conductor John Eisenhauer and Messrs. Roan and Burkhalter. It included works by composers who were born in Europe but were active in America, such as George Knowil Jackson, Hans Gram, William Selby and Peter Albrecht von Hagen; and selections of works by American-born composers Oliver Holden, Francis Hopkinson, and Jacob French; and New Jersey-born James Lyon. Some of these works have most likely not been heard since those times.

The Highland Park Recorder Society, Musica Dolce and Friends,

The Highland Park Recorder Society, Musica Dolce and Friends, performed "Music of the American Baroque and Big Band Eras" at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home, 132 Evergreen Road, Edison, NJ . There was performances by three distinct groups. Members of the Highland Park Recorder Society, including an ensemble of soprano, alto, tenor and bass recorders, performed music by American and European composers, that was heard in Colonial and Federal America in the time of Benjamin Franklin. Musica Dolce performed Baroque chamber music on recorder, violin, cello, and harpsichord. Dean Poulsen (keyboard) and friends Sal Damico (trumpet) and Ralph Albano (percussion) performed music from the "Swing Era." This music included the whole gamut - old boogie woogie and stride, and favorite tunes by Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington. The Highland Park Recorder Society, Musica Dolce, and The New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home invited the public to attend.

Advent Night Performance,
Nov. 30, 2003
Musica Dolce, the outreach performing consort of the Highland Park Recorder Society performed a concert on November 30, 2003 at the United Methodist Church in New Brunswick, NJ.  Music was by Albinoni, Marcello, Buxtehude, Telemann, Fischer, Bach, and Handel, followed by the singing of Christmas carols from the United Methodist Church hymnal.
